When our daughter was 14 weeks (in 2023) she got very sick with RSV and required 5 nights in ICU in a medically induced coma and another 2 nights on air support. We use these test to rule out when someone has symptoms. In Dec 2024 she had a mild cough but was mostly well. When she got a runny nose we did a swab an it was instantly positive for RSV. Thankfully she wasn’t too unwell, but we kept her home from childcare and helped minimize the spread.

On the 5th of December I read an article about the HSE expecting a triple wave of Covid, Flu and RSV to hit hospitals this Christmas. On the 6th of December I ordered a pack of 5 Fluorecare 4-in-1 test kits. On the 9th of December I received them. On the 19th of December I started to feel a bit achy, chills and sneezy. On the 20th December I used one of the test kits and was negative for Covid and RSV but quickly and strongly positive for Influenza type A. I actually experienced a rather mild dose of the Flu and would have assumed I just had a cold were it not for this test kit confirming I actually had the Flu. Hence I took more precautions around others with hand sanitation and wearing my left over N95 Masks from the Pandemic. Didn’t need to waste any more tests on family members because it was obvious we all had the same thing. 2 other mild cases but one family member was bedridden for a week. I’ve already given one of my spares to a family friend confirming that they have Influenza A in their household too. Its rampant this Christmas 2024. Never expected these tests to prove their worth so soon after buying them!
